1953 Austin A40 Sport

austin-a40-1Here’s a car you don’t see every day. Austin A40 Sport and its successor A90 set the stage for Donald Healey’s appropriation of running gear in the Austin-Healey, a better-known 1950s Brit racer.

It has that appealing toy-car look and the poorly-fit top that promises lots of leaks. Austins are famous for awful transmissions; when you’ve got a total of 45 horses and tiny brakes, stirring the gears is pretty key. With a decent wind at its back, the car would top 60 mph. On Craigslist via Bring a Trailer for $9500 Canadian.
